The Neo-Burlesque revolution might not have happend without our next guest, or maybe it would have just taken longer. Michelle Carr joins us for a candid chat about the origins of The Velvet Hammer Burlesque and about her new book celebrating the groups performers, "The Velvet Hammer Burlesque."
The Velvet Hammer Burlesque was LA's origins for the thriving scene we enjoy today. Ms Astrid, Venus DeMille, Diamond Back Annie, Sparkle Diamonds, Bobby Pins (aka Selene Luna) Jewel of Denial, The Paubelle Twins, Kitten Deville and so many other great artist were in the shows. The book documents the shows performers with fantasic photos by Don Spiro (interviewed in an earlier podcast) and too many more photographers to name. The German publishers have truly done the group justice within pages. It's a must have for the artistic style and photos of so many of the well known performers of today. It's a fabulous piece of burlesque history.
